Macedonia Cemetery cleanup efforts  continue to prep for radar scan

The cleanup of the Macedonia Cemetery is continuing with support from the Linden community.
Community members came together on Sat., Jan. 27, once again to continue the cleanup and restoration of the Macedonia Cemetery, sometimes called the Old Macedonia Cemetery, located behind Linden Cemetery.
More than 25 volunteers worked, including several who traveled far such as Judge Mason Darrell Barrett from Birmingham, AL, and Sam Higdon from Baton Rouge, LA.
For several days prior, Dr. Bruce LeGrow used his DR Trimmer* on small brush; he and Sam Higdon used chainsaws on trees, stumps, and brush; and Van Hall operated his tractor with front end loader and large rake to assemble brush piles which were burned.
They removed the old fence that separated the cemetery and plan to have a new fence built after a survey of the cemetery is completed
The cemetery is ready after this cleanup effort to be scanned with radar to locate unmarked graves.
The plan is to have the cemetery scanned in March and once they have located the unmarked graves they will be marked with stainless steel markers.
The group plans to possibly have a monument and an archway at the front recognizing it as the Macedonia Cemetery.
They found new markers in this cemetery that was overgrown and un-kept for so many years.
A previously undiscovered broken concrete marker with only a Cross visible was found by Judge Barrett.
An inscribed metal funeral home marker which had been bent into the ground and covered by layers of dirt and leaves was found by Katelynn.
The inscription on the metal marker reads:
    Mrs. Alice Oliver
    27 Aug 1942
    Age 59 yrs. 3 mos. 17 days.
The marker has the name of Jno. Jay Jones Funeral Director.
The Jones Stuart Mortuary still exists on E. 9th Street in Texarkana AR.
If anyone can provide information about Mrs. Alice Oliver, please call Reeder-Davis Funeral Home in Linden.
