Moonlight Madness event planned for Sept. 3 in ATL
A number of local merchants are planning to welcome shoppers to downtown Atlanta for this year’s Moonlight Madness Sale.
The local shopping event will take place on Sunday, Sept. 3 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.
Moonlight Madness, in addition to offering a chance to see what businesses have to offer downtown, will feature a number of events aimed at creating a festive atmosphere.
“The Sunday of Labor Day weekend is always the traditional Moonlight Madness date,” said Chamber Director Miranda Johnson, while adding the event is aimed at providing a fun activity for locals, as well as drawing new people to the area.
There will be vendor booths downtown, which according to chamber staff, are free for chamber members and $20 to “outside vendors from the Atlanta area only.”
Attendees are also encouraged to keep their eyes open for a number of product specials from local merchants.
And ground zero for the entertainment aspects of the event will be the large parking lot just south of Roux-Ga-Roux Seafood, where a karaoke contest of epic proportions is planned. That follows on the recent success of the chamber’s regular Karaoke on Main events, which have drawn big crowds for evening karaoke sessions at the Plaza on Main next to TJ Bolt construction.
Those sessions, along with other efforts, are aimed at drawing visitors to Atlanta’s downtown on a regular basis by offering fun activities.
“Karaoke has been going really well,” said Aaron Whitehead, chamber communications director. The karaoke events have been taking place the third Thursday of each month.
The karaoke event tied to Moonlight Madness will take the competitive aspect of the sessions to another level, with a $400 first-place prize on the table, and second- and third-place prizes of $200 and $100, respectively.
